Ph.D. position: Bottom-up engineering of synthetic cells
At the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, one of the 84 institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, physicists, chemists and biologists create knowledge of long-term relevance to life and basic medical sciences.
The Department of Cellular Biophysics is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join lab at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, for a Ph.D. position. The concerted effort in lab is directed towards developing of highly innovative and creative approaches in bottom-up synthetic biology. The successful candidate will develop novel approaches for bottom-up reconstitution of dynamic actomyosin and microtubule cytoskeletal networks within the synthetic cells.
Candidates should have a Master’s or equivalent degree in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology, Chemistry, or related fields. An experimental background in biophysics and microfluidics is preferable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
The payment is based on the TVöD guidelines (“Promotionsfördervertrag”). The Ph.D. position is limited to three years with a possibility of extension.
The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
