Glutaric aciduria type I (GA1) is an autosomal recessive IEM (Inborn errors of metabolism) disorder that arises due to mutations in the enzyme Glutaryl Co-A dehydrogenase (GCDH), and is found to occur with high frequency (~1:5000)certain ethnic groups including the states of AP and Telangana, India. Children with GA1 usually present with macrocephaly at birth, and a trigger such as fever or infection in early childhood results in acute encephalopathic crises and striatal damage, leading to severe dystonia and dyskinesis. There is so far, no way to predict the susceptibility to striatal damage or prevent it, especially in the presymptomatic stages. We hypothesize that imbalance in molecular pathways in GA1 patients in the gestation or newborn stages, could predispose some patients to such striatal damage and our objective is to use a larval zebrafish model of GA1 to identify such molecular changes. A larval zebrafish model will allow access to a developmental window that is inaccessible in mice or others thus making this a necessary and sufficient tool to investigate the mechanistic basis of early striatal damage and contribute to new targets and therapeutic strategies.
Qualified and interested candidates may send their curriculum vitae by e-mail to email@example.com on or before deadline mention in the subject line of the mail the following code: – GA1- Biology, Selected candidates will be called for a personal interview to Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad Campus, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
Note: Candidates will not be reimbursed for Travel for the Interview if shortlisted.
