The position encompasses research training and the preparation of a PhD for a period of 3 years in the framework of an European Marie Curie Initial Training Network, CartNet, http://cartnet.ku.dk. The subject of research is deciphering what the bacterial and phage-related factors are in host specificity and use the information to compose a cocktail of phages that allows the prevention and treatment of Avian Pathogenic E. coli infections (APEC) in poultry.
Your tasks will deal with basic bacteriophage isolation, sequencing of phages and analysis of the sequence data. Analyze the spectrum of activity of the phages and determine the factors of the APEC strains that are important in the specificity of the phages.
Profile of the candidate
We are looking for a person who wants to develop skills in both laboratory handling of bacteria and bacteriophages as well as bioinformatics (analysis of DNA sequences). As a researcher, you will be included in the training aspects of the project as described on the CartNet website.
Your work location will be Ghent University as primary basis but you will also work at Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine and you will do a secondment at Copenhagen University.
